Have You Watched Happy Valley?

Surprise, it’s a Monday post!  We’re doing an experiment for the next couple of weeks by adding in some bite-size posts about books, shows we’re watching, products we’re into, or just whatever we’re thinking and talking about.  Is there something you’d like to hear about or discuss?  Let us know in the comments.

Have you seen the British mini-series Happy Valley?  It’s a smart, character-driven crime drama with strong women in lead roles, including the greatest TV cop ever.  We’re hooked!  The first two seasons are available to stream on Netflix.  What are you watching these days?

Yes! Watched this and really liked it despite the relatively dark story line, which is common for many wonderful British series (Shetland, The Fall, Broadchurch etc) I just love Sarah Lancashire – She is also fantastic in Last Tango in Halifax- a much lighter british series that is available on PBS and Amazon Prime.

Favorite Show: Last Tango In Halifax (Happy Valley lead has major role in that, too.) SUCH a wonderful show!!
The Americans is good, too. But if you haven’t watched Friday Night Lights (I know! Football! Texas! Football in Texas!), DO. That’ll keep you going for awhile, too. Love to hear others’ favs. Too hot here in NC for much else.

Haven’t watched “Happy Valley” yet, but it’s in my queue. And Margy – “Friday Night Lights” was one of my favorites. Right now I’m watching “The Great British Baking Show,” which is really a hoot. It’s worth watching just to hear Mary Berry say the word “layers” in a way only the British can.

Hey, you sneaks! A Monday post??

I have only so far seen (and loved) the first season of Happy Valley. The main bad guy is so convincingly awful and creepy that I had to delay catching up with PBS’s Grantchester, in which the same guy plays the hero, a crime-solving Anglican priest! (He’s equally convincing in that role.)

But, yes, Sarah Lancaster is amazing in HV and Last Tango in Halifax (great cast all around in that one). Best TV cop though? Dunno. Think I might give the edge to Helen Mirren’s Jane Tennyson in Prime Suspect. Highly recommend that series if you haven’t seen it.

I’m re-watching/catching up episodes missed while away this winter of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Hilarious.

Recent books that I loved include Elizabeth Strout’s My Name is Lucy Barton and Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney’s The Nest.

Suggested topic: loved the one or two posts you’ve done about “fashion”. I’m very much into decluttering and paring down (and donating) my wardrobe these days. While I’m not ever going to embrace capsule wardrobes or the need to feel joy when getting dressed, I do like the idea of doing more with less.

Glad the RHW crew is around more than once a week again. Kinda sorta. 🙂

For the good of the blog and not for selfish reasons at all, I keep trying to convince Mera to write a recurring ‘What Katie Should Wear’ post.

My favorite show: The Americans. Wow! Happy Valley became too unhappy for me, but I love love love Halifax. Still have to try Friday Night Lights. Liked “The Fall” and “Grantchester.” I know that many of you are younger than me, but I loved “Grace and Frankie” with Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. Crazy! Plus, there’s a scene in this last season where Jane makes love with Sam Elliott. Yes, us elders still like that stuff. 🙂 Or should I say we all have a crush on Sam Elliott.

I agree with you, Katie–Mera should write a recurring “What Katie Should Wear” post. Fun!
