Covetable Style: Australian Homes

Welcome back!  It is frigid here in the PNW, and as months of darkness and cold stretch before us we are feeling a little envious thinking about our friends in the southern hemisphere who are just heading into summer.  It’s not just the warmth and sunshine that have us dreaming of life on the other side of the planet–we are also very, very covetous of Australian home style.  Often the images of interiors that most resonate with us–the ones we’re likely to send each other with a “did you see this???!” note–are from down under.

Today we’ve rounded up some of our favorite Australian homes — we love the bold use of color, the carefree style, interesting art, and emphasis (so appealing and unattainable to us for most of the year in our Alaska/Oregon climates) on indoor/outdoor living.

This bright and eclectic home near Melbourne captures a lot of what we love about Australian style:

This studio is the perfect mix of rustic and modern, and the bathroom is pretty much ideal:TDF-carlton1048 TDF-carlton1023Via Design Files

The wide open doors in the kitchen, the tin ceiling and planked walls, the colors . . . what’s not to love?

The simple color palette in this light and bright Sydney kitchen is right on:

The colors, textures and art in this Bedford, WA home (near Perth) are so fun and welcoming.  We also love the rustic beams and the tiles in the bathroom (actually we love everything in the bathroom):

Beautiful, right?  We hope everyone’s week is off to a great start–come back on Wednesday for a new post from Katie!

Me too! It’s sleety and dark today and it’s blissful to be transported – even for just a moment – into those sunny, lovely spaces. Stay cozy Michelle!

I love the photos with living room and kitchen so open to the out-of-doors – can’t even imagine! but also love the little cupboard in the old fireplace. It’s interesting how these look very particular – down under stye is appealing. Thanks!

I just love that tiny kitchen, but do wonder why there is a hole in the middle of the table. And I’m crazy about the cut metal lampshade above the table in the other kitchen.
